ABOUT AMY

Amy Winters, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, has over 22 years of experience in both agency settings early in her career, and as a Psychotherapist in Private Practice for the past 17 years. 

 

While completing a residency in Clinical Social Work at The University of Kansas Medical Center, she helped establish the HIV Care Coordination Program and provided direct services to clients ranging in age from children to adults.

 

Amy worked in adolescent residential and day treatment facilities both in Kansas City, Denver and Boulder, CO, working with at risk youth with emotional and behavioral problems for 6 years beginning in 1992. 

 

Later, she worked as a Lead Counselor at the Longmont Hospital Employee Assistance Program, providing outpatient individual, family and couple's therapy, as well as facilitating stress management classes for the hospital.  She has been in private practice in Boulder, CO  since 1998.

 

Additionally, Amy has been a practitioner in Clinical Chi Kung in Boulder since 2008, offering Chi Kung as an adjunct to the psychotherapy process.

 

 

For the past 20 years, Amy has practiced Vipassana Meditation (Mindfulness Meditation) studying primarily with Shinzen Young, and teaches classes in his Basic Mindfulness System.  She also leads daylong Mindfulness Meditation retreats.

 

Her passion is to work with others to help them gain greater clarity, balance, healing and joy in their lives, by utilizing numerous traditional and complementary approaches to well-being.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Amy received her Bachelor of Arts in Theater from The University of Kansas in 1982, studying voice and dance as well.  She completed additional studies in graduate school in Education with an emphasis in English.  She completed a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work at The University of Kansas in 1993.

 

Since graduation, she has actively pursued continuing education in her field in many areas including, but not limited to, depression, aniety, PTSD, trauma, Attention Deficit Disorder, Substance Abuse, and Family Systems.  She trained in Integrative Body Psychotherapy (certified practitioner), Gestalt work, Imago  & PAIRS couples counseling, Group Leadership Training, Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy, EMDR (levels I & II),  Brainspotting (levels I & II), Emotional Freedom Technique (level 1)  and (levels I & II) of Comprehensive Energy Psychology. 

 

In 2008, she completed a four level training program with Damaris Jarboux at The Center Place in Boulder, in Clinical Chi Kung.

Amy is a member of The National Association of Social Workers, The National Chi Kung Association, The Rocky Mountain Brainspotting Association and The Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology.  She is licensed in the state of CO.
